"happiness is coming"

Jeremy and I woke up this morning to Finn standing at the side of Scout's crib singing "Happiness is Coming! Happiness is Coming! Happiness is Coming!!" It was one of the most beautiful sounds and sights I've ever seen. Nice way to wake up.

(attempted) family photo

thank you Alex for trying!!

this week

We are fish-sitting this weekend for fe'. I'm not sure that finn will let her come take Sergeant Pepper away from him! The other photo of him is from his birthday. Noah & Audrey made him an airplane helmet to wear while riding his bike! genius!

abel and T

When he was only 2 weeks old, T witnessed his first birth while nestled in the sling (Abel is our good friends' audrey and noah's baby). I really hope these two will grow up to be great friends.

procrastination project #2

here is a blanket i finally finished for finn. it's the first and last thing i'll probably ever knit in my life! i really appreciate the time and effort of those of you who knit! (please do not look too closely at this blanket by the way!) thank you audrey for teaching me how...and you are officially inheriting my needles and leftover yarn!

procrastination project #1

As I sit here at the computer and write "ABOUT" my procrastination project, I am procrastinating. (I should be writing final evaluations for my online students.)
this is the mobile I always meant to make for finn, but finally made for T. I should have waited until next week when my class is complete, but alas.

I work better under pressure anyway.

T is really beginning to look like finn did at that age. I'm having major flashbacks as T begins discovering new things each day. It makes me sad and happy all at the same time. Time moves way too quickly for me.

happy 3rd birthday finn!

thanks to seth and noah for cake design and assembly. when it came down to it, i had no idea what to do with all of the separate chocolate cakes.

finn's artwork

Finn is really into drawing these days. I found a huge magnadoodle at a rummage sale for 50 cents last weekend. Here are a few pics of his latest drawings. (artwork for an NLK poster, portrait of him and T (on a piece of toilet paper!), WALL-e and an airplane) More to come....

Historic Day

So this morning we woke up to rain and quickly got ready to walk to the poles. Finn proudly rode his bike all the way there. But first we had to stop by Starbucks for coffee (sorry Zephyr). We decided it wouldn't be too dishonest to claim our free "I voted" coffee on our way to vote. We enjoyed every sip in line outside the VW dealership. An exciting and historic day. We could just feel it in the spirits of the others waiting to cast their ballots; It's a pretty special privilege we share.

halloweened

For Halloween this year, Scout had an identity crises. He has so many names, you know, so it was a draw between the punker Mr. T look, or the Tennessee look. You decide what fits him best? Finn originally wanted to be an airplane. I should have just broken down and attempted that one, because the pirate thing didn't quite work! I made the mistake of showing Finn some clips of Pirates of the Caribbean on YouTube. He got frightened and insisted on being a (in his words) 'happy pirate'. Hence the red polka-dotted eye patch. Back up a bit.....I FIRST made the mistake of starting his costume on Friday afternoon (on Halloween). Anyway, we went trick-or-treating with some friends in Sierra Madre on Canon Street which is a huge scary production. Maybe that's why Finn has woken up the past 2 nights screaming "Mommy!!" in his sleep. And he has started pretending to see monsters on the walls of our house. Maybe next year we'll just stick with the Harvest Festival!

it feels like FALL!!

Finally the weather feels like it should. kind of cloudy and a little cool.
Finn picked out a white pumpkin at VONS. I felt kind of lame buying one there with all of the great pumpkin farms and even pumpkin lots around here. ( we were left car-less this week after old faithful, our old 1980 subaru, just wasn't so faithful anymore.) Anyway, as long as this weather stays cool and sometimes rainy, I have nothing to complain about.
(Halloween costume pics to come)

true love of mine

parsley - sage - rosemary & thyme ...(lettuce and spinach)

Jeremy and Finn planted an herb garden on Sunday. Jeremy has fond memories of planting seeds as a child and watching new life spring up from the dirt. We'll see how long it takes me to kill the poor plants.
